Nick's 26 Birthday Party


His 26th birthday is the 1st year he has me and with many more to come!

His actual birthday is on 24th Sept.
I cooked a breakfast for him on 24th and we went Sungei Buloh on the day itself.
Then on the 26th, it was a surprise party.

Why a surprise party?

Many months ago, he was toying around with the idea of a gathering. What better excuse than to do it for his birthday?

But being the man he is, he didn't get down to planning it as it comes closer to the date.

Thank god for I have gotten the thought and have emailed/facebooked his friends 1 month before the party!

The close friends he has, granted I have already gotten their contacts.
There were some others I heard of but never met them personally. So I had to log into Nick's fb, gotten their email and email them on a seperate note.

Thank god for facebook.

So that is why I have signed up for it. So in case people wanna include me in some surprise party, easier to contact me mah. ;)
Heehee.

I wanted to do it at a chalet! But for many months, Aloha was closed for H1N1 operations and finally when it is opened, it was fully booked. -__-

Then I had an inspiring thought.

Why not held it at Tim's place - Icon? The place that I love and always hope I can get to stay in such place.

I had to be away from him on the pretext of project work (which he DID message my group mates and asked if I indeed had project work and lucky I had pre-empted them!) and his friends couldn't decide if they wanted to have him with them while they buy his present (*rolls eyes*) or that he should not be around.

Finally, they decided that he should not be around and of course that added in to the whole suspicious-ness level.

"So coincidentally my gf not free WHOLE afternoon. Then my brothers said they are gonna meet the girls they like."

I could go into details exactly how from the afternoon I was with Glen nand Gek waiting for delivery, then forgetting to bring my money along and really had to dig Gek's and Glenn's pocket, then rushing off to get cake with Gek because I didn't feel safe leaving the food there unattended, meeting the boys lah dah lah dah.

But wells! End of the day, I think Nick had a goood time. :D

For a good whole half an hour, he shrunk into his secluded moment. Trying to get used to seeing his friends and Gek and I (Glenn had to leave, pity!) all there for his birthday party.

He really just stood around and his friends helped themselves to the food and drinks.

I tried coaxing him out but he said he need a moment. Haha.

Then finally he came around and mingled with his friends.

He gets a lill tipsy and became sooooo chatty.

Just imagine, him in my character.

And its quite hilarious coz Gek met up with us the next day and she said, "imagine Nick like Ching lah, then after the next day I meet up with em, he became the solemn Nick again."

Here's a brief idea of what I had for the party:

1. Qiji Cooked Food
Recommended by Gek, this is like the staple food for the party. Orders can be made online but self-picked up.

2. BBQ Food from MY BBQ Place
Thought the price was fairly reasonable and they do delivery. At the same time, after much scouring, I realised their prices for disposable utensils / drinks were reasonable. So I also did purchase from them.

3. Others
I split my To Buys List into 3 worksheets - cooked food / bbq food / others and the others consisted of like disposable utensils / cake / sweets / drinks; of which some I bought from My BBQ Place and also on my own from the nearby Shop and Save.

When one is poor, you sought for the best value and I think, it is through splitting the purchases.

The BBQ place has a minimal order of like 30 disposable forks. And I only have 20 attendees. If I were to placed 2 x minimal orders, I would have 60 disposable forks. Too much!
So I only placed 1x minimal order and then bought "loose" ones from Shop and Save or those cheap shops around.

4. Desserts
I had considerations for dessert too! On top of the tiramisu cake, Glenn also bought durian strudel.

All in all, I felt the party was not a bad one althoug there were a fair bit of wastage for the BBQ food.

Nonetheless, I think Nick had a good time and its all that matters. :D

I really must show my appreciation to the following people! I must have said thanks to them many times but they have helped me out so much that no matter how many thanks I have said, it would never be enough.

Gek - Thank you thank you thank you! I really don't know where to start thanking you from.
From you making a trip down to hospital (and risk getting infected, haha) to pick up all Qiji stuff making 2 trips to your car, then sending me to Vivo to buy cake and then to pay when I forgotten cash. Then by being yourself you mingled with all and and make them feel welcomed to rounding up the party by sending Nick and I home.

And not to mention you specially went out to get his gift.

You are the kinda friend anyone could not have asked for more.

Glenn - For someone who won't be at the party, you gave in and make so much effort just so I would have lesser things to fret. Where do I start? Too much to name and too much to say.

With you, I can't ask for more.
